Q&A featuring Casey Fahey, VP of Facilities, Grand Casino Hinckley

Tell us how and why you like to play golf.

Sometimes I wonder the why! ;-) I play golf to socialize, be competitive, and enjoy the outdoors with a sport that you can play as you age, unlike other sports.

How long have you been golfing? 35 years

How would you describe golfing in Hinckley and the surrounding areas?

Grand National Golf Club has a friendly player’s design. It has enough open space and land that you rarely get into too much trouble and makes the game more enjoyable for the medium golfer, yet it has many risk/reward shot choices for the competitive golfer. Golf in the area is fantastic! Nothing beats MN golf courses; there are price points for all budgets and experiences. Courses peak in early summer with our weather, and play can go late into the fall for some of the most beautiful colors, conditions, and temperatures.

What’s your favorite part about golfing around the area?

The abundance of tee times available and many offer kids and twilight rates.

What is your favorite golf hole in the Hinckley area?

My favorite hole, without a doubt, is #5 at Grand National Golf Club. Backdrop in the woods. Ultra quiet. Bentgrass fairways. White sand bunkers. A two-tiered fairway that is drivable to the top tier. Huge green!

What advice would you give someone coming to the area to golf?

Make your weekend tee time in advance. Come early to Grand National and experience the huge driving range and practice holes that come with your paid greens fees.

How would you describe the golfing culture in the Hinckley area?

Laid back, welcoming, quiet areas, great conditions, and professional service.

Are there many tournaments happening in the area?

There are always a handful of events open to the public. (See below or talk to the staff at the Golf Clubs)

Where can I find out more about them?

Talk to anyone at the Golf Clubs for a list of public events.

Do you participate in any leagues or tournaments in the area?

I have participated in Men’s League, Couple’s League, and an Executive League.

What’s your ideal golfing day and weekend trip like?

Morning tee time with a group of family or friends. Light lunch and a beverage, and an evening tee time with some fun games within the group. A team game, longest putts, closest to the pin, etc. BBQ. Repeat the next day!

Can you share your favorite memory about playing golf in Hinckley?

Playing in any evening round with my family and friends and laughing often!

What would you say is unique about golfing in the Hinckley Area?

The largest practice facility around that is open every day with a beautiful view off the deck for adding up your scorecard or just watching the sunset.

Thank you, Casey!
